Canadian Senior Men's Softball Champions

1987 Saskatoon Rempel BrothersThe Saskatoon Rempel Brothers senior men's softball team was formed in 1985, won the Saskatchewan title in its first year, and then won the Saskatchewan and Canadian championships in 1987.

They started the 1987 season by winning major tournaments in Kelowna, Winnipeg and Saskatoon and then captured the provincial title with three straight wins at Regina.

They competed at the world tournament at Sioux City, Iowa, in August and finished a very respectable seventh.

At the Canadian championships in Sarnia, Ont., they sailed through with seven straight victories, beating Sarnia 2-0 in the final.

Thirteen of the 24 players were homegrown from Saskatchewan. Nine of the players were selected to Canada's national team. They were Dave Paetkau, Jim Cowdry, Jim Jones, Randy Dutaiume, Dave Hoffman, Rob Scheller, Jay Sim, Len Chanasyk and Ray Tilley. Larry Besse was team manager, Ken Gunn was assistant manager, Pete Clark was the head coach and Les Howey and Wayne Wallace were his assistants.
