The Saskatoon Liners won the Saskatchewan major league championship, finished second in the Western Canada championships but, by beating the finalists, they qualified for the 1983 Canadian playoffs at Sudbury, Ontario.
Dwayne Andreen was the coach of the team, which disposed of Regina Red Sox, 7-5 and 1-0, for a two-straight sweep of the Saskatchewan final, the second game coming on a five-hit pitching performance by Kevin Frey.
Bob Silzer had 10 hits in 17 at bats for a .588 average during the western playoffs where the Liners won three out of the first four and then lost to the Manitoba All-Stars, 13-3. By being a western finalist, they automatically qualified for the national playoffs.
Dave McKee had two hits and batted in two runs when the Liners clinched bronze medals at the Canadian championships at Sudbury, Ontario, beating Manitoba, 3-1. Windsor eliminated them in the tournament's semifinal game, 11-9.
Bob Silzer had a strong Canadian playoff series and was honoured as the most valuable player to his team, having collected eight hits in 16 at bats for a .500 average. The trophy also recognized his perseverance and dedication to the game.
