Canadian Mixed Curling Champions

Rick Folk and Tom Wilson had been players on a Saskatoon Nutana men's team when they decided to enlist Cheryl Stirton and Bonnie Orchard from the University of Saskatchewan to compete in the 1974 mixed curling championships. They won the Saskatoon title, beating Art Kelly in the A final and then beating Kelly's team again in the A-B final.

In the provincial playoffs at Assiniboia, Folk's team went through undefeated, beating Gary Hogarth of Coleville in the A final and beating his team a second time in the A-B final.

The Canadian championships were held in Winnipeg and the Folk team won its first three before losing to Ed Steeves of New Brunswick in the fourth round. After that, the Saskatoon team sailed along, closing with a 9-3 victory over Alberta to finish in a first place tie with New Brunswick, each with nine wins and one loss.

In the final, Folk scored three on the fifth to take a 6-4 lead, Steeves scored two on the sixth to tie the game, the seventh was blanked and then Folk put the game away with a three on the eighth. Steeves got one back on the ninth but ran out of rocks, losing 9-7 in the championship showdown.
