Team Physician
Dr. Walter Hader first began serving as team physician for the University of Saskatchewan athletic teams in 1964 and has since been enlisted for support in varied sports fields. He has been honored for distinguished service with the University and was the club physician with two Vanier cup football champions.
Walter coached in the Saskatoon Hockey Association, 1970 through 1976, and has been recognized by the Parks and Recreation department for volunteer service and organizational skills.
He has served the medical needs of athletes at the Knights of Columbus Saskatchewan Indoor Games for 30 years. He has been a medical volunteer at Saskatchewan Games, again at the Western Canada Games and, in 1989, at the Canada Summer Games in Saskatoon. Walter was a member of the Canadian Olympic medical team in Montreal in 1976.
He has also been prominent in speed skating, serving as Saskatoon president in 1975, vice-president of the Canadian association in 1981-82 and later a director as well as serving as a medical officer and chief placing judge at national championships. He was named an association life member in 1987.
He was a charter member of the Saskatchewan Academy of Sport Medicine and has also been on the board of directors of the Saskatchewan Sports Medicine Council.
