Kelly Bowers has compiled an exceptional record as a basketball referee. He has officiated at many levels for 45 years, including high school play, senior men's, ladies and wheelchair. He was a college official for 25 years from 1973 to 1998.
Following high school Kelly also played senior men's basketball for 10 years. He continues to be a major organizer of the prestigious Bedford Road Invitational tournament (BRIT) dating back to 1974.
Kelly has coached football at every level from community peewee, bantam, high school to the hilltops every fall for (37 years) dating back to 1974. As offensive coordinator for the Hilltops for 12 years, he was part of national championships teams (1991 & 1996).
Kelly has been the president of the expending Kinsmen Football League for the past 7 years. He has been the radio voice of the U of S Huskies since 1998. He received the Investors Group Volunteer Award in 2008 from Football Saskatchewan for his long time service to the game of football in Saskatoon and the province.
A teacher for 33 years Kelly coached basketball, football, track and wrestling at Bedford Road and Mount Royal. He was also the athletic consultant for SSSAD for nine years. He received the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association Award of merit in 2007 upon his retirement as an educator.
He was chosen the Saskatoon Kinsmen Sportsman of the Year in 2001 and he has been very active in water polo, slo-pitch and the Riverside Tennis Club.
