Jurgen Wittenberg As a youth in Germany, Jurgen took part in gymnastics and played for the German National rugby team.

When he arrived in Saskatoon in November 1958, he became one of Saskatoon's prominent builders. He was involved with the Saskatoon Track Club, competed for one year then became club manager. In 1963 he was instrumental in forming the Riversdale club and has served this organization in a variety of positions.

Because of his excellent knowledge in all technical aspects he has assisted organizations on the local, provincial and national levels. Jurgen has officiated at 1967 Pan-American Games, 1976 Olympics, 1978 Commonwealth Games and the 1983 World Student Games to name only a few. But he helps out at local and provincial meets as well. For 19 years Jurgen was a gymnastic instructor.

He served four years on the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame committee and was a director of Sask Sport from 1974 to 1976.

In 1987 he was named Kinsmen Sportsman of the Year and was added to the Canadian Track and Field officials Wall of Fame. His list of honours and awards are many.
