Over the years Joe has been a player, coach, manager, official, administrator and sports historian. Most of his coaching and managing was directed towards baseball and hockey, but he contributed to other sports like curling, soccer, softball, flag football and track and field.
In order to improve the coaching calibre in Saskatchewan, Joe has conducted many baseball and hockey clinics.
In 1967, Joe was selected as manager of the first Canadian baseball team to take part in the Pan-American Games in Winnipeg.
He has served two full terms as director of both Sask Sport and the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame. He is still active and assists the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame.
In 1964, he was selected Kinsmen Sportsman of the Year. He was inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 1982 and two years later was added to the University of Saskatchewan Athletic Wall of Fame.
