Bill Remenda has been a baseball umpire from the sandlot league to the world championships.
In more than 30 years in the sport, Remenda has been behind the plate for city, provincial, Western Canadian and Canadian baseball championships. He officiated at the Canada Games. He was an umpire at the 1990 world championship in Edmonton, as well at the world youth championship for players under 18 in 1984 in Kindersley, in 1985 in Albany, N.Y., and in 1988 in Sydney, Australia.
The championship in the U.S. is especially memorable. Remenda was the umpire in the final as Cuba defeated the United States. The event was Cuba's first baseball competition on American soil in 26 years.
In addition to being an umpire, Remenda has been director and president of the Saskatoon Baseball Association. He has been the director and supervisor of the SBA umpires, as well as the umpire supervisor in provincial, regional and national competition.
Remenda said one of his favourite roles is instructing umpires at clinics and in certification courses.
