Golf (2014)The 15th hole at Saskatoon's Riverside Country Club was a par 4 more than 400 yards long. Dana Kidd carded a birdie. She was 12 years old.
By 18 she was a national champion.
Kidd is the only golfer from Saskatchewan to win the Canadian junior women's title in the 59-year history of the event. She won the championship in 1992. Entering the final round down by four strokes, she won by three.
Kidd competed in the Canadian national junior tournament for four years starting in 1989, finishing first in the 16-and-under category in 1990, first among 17-year-olds in 1991 and taking the grand prize in 1992.
Twice as a teen she went to the Junior World Optimist tournament in San Diego. She then received a golf scholarship to attend the University of Kentucky.
Besides golf, Kidd competed in boxing, soccer and badminton. She received the outstanding athlete award at Aden Bowman Collegiate.
