HUSKIE CIAU MEN’S VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONS
The Huskies, coached
by Tom Graham, roared through the Canada West Conference, with a record
of 15 wins and one loss, and then met the University of Calgary in the
championship series, winning 3-0 in the first game and 3-1 in the
second.
At the
CIAU championships in Guelph, the Huskies defeated the University of
Toronto Blues, 3-1, and then beat Dalhousie University Tigers, 3-0, and
then met the tough rivals, Manitoba Bisons.
In the national final
against Manitoba, they lost the first game, 11-15, but rebounded to win,
15-8, 15-2 and 15-9. Brad Dusyk had 17 kills and Darwin Daae seven
blocks in the CIAU final. Brian Gavlas was voted most valuable player in
the national tournament and Darwin Daae and Brad Dusyk were named
all-stars. The honours were in addition to the regular-season Canadian
all-star awards bestowed on Gavlas, on the first team, and Jerome
Linnell, on the second team.
