C.I.A.U. NATIONAL
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONS
The Huskiettes made history in 1978-79
when they became the first University of Saskatchewan volleyball
team to win a Canadian Intercollegiate championship.
The victory was a tribute to coach mark
Tennant, who came from Winnipeg in 1971 to take over the program.
Within four years, he had won a Canada West title and within 10
years, a national title.
The jump in 1978-79 was rather dramatic
because the Huskiettes climbed from a fourth-place team in the west
to a national champion. They qualified for the national
tournament at McMaster University, gained an important semi-final
victory over McMaster and then beat York University, 15-11, 15-9,
14-16 and 15-8.
