Glenn Reeve has worked tirelessly for
softball, serving since 1980 with Softball Canada, working with
international teams and tournaments and playing leading role on the
mission staff at the two Pan-American Games in the 1990s.
Glenn was born Feb. 19, 1938, at Regina, but
spent his early years in the Grenfell area. His first team was at the
Arlington school district, where the full school roster was on the team.
He played early-organized baseball with the
Grenfell Royals and after going to Melville to teach in 1963, he was
with the Melville Comets.
He returned to Saskatoon in 1967 and was a
coach with K & K Olson's when they won the Western Canada intermediate
title in 1969. He was also the coach of the Rempel Brothers midgets who
were Saskatchewan champions in 1980.
Glenn was also
involved in hockey, with he and Garry Peters coaching the Saskatoon
Flyers in the 1982-83 season.
In his roles
with Softball Canada, Glenn has supervised 14 Canadian championship
events, including one of the first ones at Kitchener-Waterloo in
1982. He was team leader of the Canadian women's national team, which
travelled to Japan and Beijing, China, in 1982. Glenn was team leader of
the national women's softball team, which won the gold medal at the
Pan-American Games at Caracas, Venezuela. Five of the players were
Saskatchewan originals; five others were imports on Saskatchewan teams;
and Canada beat United States in the final.
Glenn, Don Funk, Don
Porter and Bill Hunter were part of the signing committee, which brought
the 1988 International Softball Federation world championships to
Saskatoon.
As assistant chef de
mission, Glenn raised the Canadian flag at the 1991 Pan-American Games
in Cuba and as chef de mission; he also raised the Canadian flag at the
1995 Pan-American Games in Argentina. |
