Bob has spent much of his
life in sports, mainly in basketball and softball. After many years as a
player, Stayner went into administration, starting as an executive
member of the Saskatoon Senior Men’s Basketball League.
In 1959, Bob coached the
Adilman Aces to the Canadian Senior Women’s Basketball Championship. The
club then represented Canada at the Pan-American Games in Chicago. In
1963, Stayner coached the Saskatoon Aces to another Canadian women’s
title. Both of his clubs are in the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame.
In 1968, Bob turned
his attention to fastball. He coached the Saskatoon Imperials to the
Canadian Senior women’s title. In 1976, he organized the Harmony Centre
fastball team and coached them to three straight years as provincial
champions. The 1978 team also won the Canadian championship and then
represented Canada in the Pan-American Games in 1979 in Puerto Rico.
Bob has also assisted
the Saskatoon Hilltops and the Saskatoon Quaker Senior Hockey club.
He was inducted into
the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 1980. |
