Erin Bullee raised Saskatchewan's profile in
synchronized swimming as the province's first swimmer to be named to two
national teams and as a competitor whose travels took her to six
international meets.
Erin was born in Regina on Feb. 2, 1972 and
moved with her family to Saskatoon in 1974.
She quickly became interested in water
sports and, in 1979, she did her first backyard pool routine with Gina
Gass. She joined the Bridge City Cosmo Aqualenes club and, in 1982, was
doing a duet with Kathy Kennedy.
She was a member of the Aqualenes from 1981
until 1993, was named to the Saskatchewan First team in 1989, and won
many club and provincial awards along the way. Erin was on the podium as
the silver medalist at the Western Canada championships in 1987. Erin
and her Saskatchewan teammates were honored in 1989 with a Sask Sport
team award.
In 1990, she was with
the Saskatchewan team at the Canada Winter Games, became the first
Saskatchewan swimmer on the national youth team, and was named to the
Synchro All-Canadian team. She shared in Canada's silver medal success
at the American Cup II competition. She and Erin Gillings often competed
as duet and shared a great moment in 1990 when both were chosen to the
Canadian team.
In 1991, she was on
the Canadian team, which repeated as silver medal winners at the
American Cup II. Among her overseas trips were one to the Scottish Open
in Glasgow in 1991 and another to the French Open in 1992. Erin joined
the Canadian National B team in 1993 and they were bronze medallists in
the Pan-Pacific Games.
Faced with the
challenge of moving out of Saskatoon to pursue her career, Erin elected
to stay in Saskatoon and became a coach with the Aqualenes. She has also
been a national athletes representative on Synchro Canada's board of
directors. |
