He coaches ballplayers. He registers teams and schedules games. He works on the organizing committee for championships.

When you say softball, say Beatty.

The son of an umpire, Lawrence Beatty has coached softball in Saskatoon since 1985, from the midget boys Selects to the senior women Tigers. His teams have won provincials 10 times. He has taken a club to nationals five times.

Although much of his time in softball is not at the diamond, his presence in the park is seen and heard. He served on the executive of the Saskatoon Minor League for 20 years, including as president for six years. He helps run the annual President's minor tournament for boys and girls. He is on the executive with the Saskatoon Amateur Softball Association. He conducts softball camps, coaching clinics and supervises provincial championships.

Beatty also goes prime time.

He has been on the host committee for twelve Canadian softball championships. He introduced live streaming to the senior men's nationals in 2008. He was recruited to supervise national championships in Ontario and Quebec and for the Canada Games in Winnipeg.

He helped Saskatoon welcome the softball world for championships in 2002, 2009 and 2015. As head statistician, he went to Whitehorse, Yukon for the world junior men's championship in 2014 and the world senior men's championship in 2016.
